Welcome to your Confidence Catalyst Newsletter – helping you speak up, step up and stand out.

Many of us are already working incredibly hard, yet still feel like we need to prove ourselves.

The problem?

Working harder is rarely the strategy that creates career momentum.

What actually moves your career forward is working strategically.

Let’s look at that through our usual three lenses.

Mindset – From Proving to Improving

Many high-achievers carry an invisible pressure:

“I need to prove I deserve to be here.”

That pressure shows up in ways that look like dedication:

Over-preparing

Taking on extra work

Fixing problems that aren’t yours

Staying later than everyone else

But strategic leaders think differently.

They focus less on proving capability and more on improving what matters most.

Ask yourself:

  • What actually moves the business forward right now?
  • Where can my contribution create the biggest impact?
  • What does success look like from my organisation’s perspective?

When you shift from proving to improving, your effort becomes intentional rather than exhausting.

Behaviour – Align Your Effort with What Matters

Hard work doesn’t automatically create visibility.

Strategic alignment does.

The leaders who progress fastest are clear about three things:

1️⃣ What their organisation cares about most

2️⃣ How their work supports those priorities

3️⃣ How they communicate their progress

Start by asking:

  • What are the top 3 priorities for my team or organisation right now?
  • Which of my activities directly support those priorities?
  • Where might I be busy but not strategic?

Then do something many people skip:

Share your progress.

Not in a boastful way,  but in a clear, professional way that connects your work to results.

Strategic leaders don’t assume their work will be noticed.

They help people see their impact.

Compassion – Knowing When Enough Is Enough

Many ambitious leaders hold themselves to standards that are higher than anyone else expects.

Which raises an important question:

Whose expectations are you actually trying to meet?

Your manager’s?  Your organisation’s?  Or the ones you’ve quietly set for yourself?

Compassion means recognising when your drive for excellence turns into unnecessary pressure.

Ask yourself:

  • What does “good enough” look like here?
  • Where am I over-delivering out of habit?
  • Where would a strategic effort create more impact than extra effort?

Sustainable leadership isn’t about doing more.

It’s about knowing where your energy truly counts.

The Deeper Shift

This isn’t about working less.

It’s about working smarter.

From:

Working hard → Working strategically

Proving yourself → Improving what matters

Over-giving → Focused contribution

Because your career grows fastest when your effort is targeted, visible and aligned.

If this resonated, the next step is understanding where you might be relying on hard work instead of strategic influence.

Start with my Future-Proof Yourself Quiz. You can take it here It will help you identify the areas that may be slowing your progression,  and where to focus instead.

Then, if you’d like to go deeper, book a 1:1 session with me (£175) and we’ll map out the strategic moves that will help you step up, stand out and accelerate your impact.

You can book your session here.

Because the goal isn’t to work harder to prove yourself.

It’s to work strategically, making sure the right people see the impact you’re creating. ✨

Have a great week
