Welcome to your Confidence Catalyst Newsletter Helping you speak up, step up, and stand out.

Looking back over my career, there have been several moments where someone told me I could not do something. Each time, something fired up inside me. A very stubborn, determined voice said: Oh really? Watch me.

It pushed me forward. It fuelled promotions, projects, leaps into the unknown. Although, sometimes I was driven by the need to prove something to someone else, rather than choosing what I genuinely wanted for myself.

Our internal and external narratives shape confidence every day. Words carry power, both other people’s words and our own. What matters is that we pay attention.

Let’s explore this through our usual lenses of mindset, behaviour, and compassion.

Mindset: You Are the Gatekeeper of What You Allow In

We need to think carefully about what we put in our bodies. We know too much junk leaves us tired and low. The same goes for our thoughts.

Our mind is not a dumping ground for every opinion, criticism, or assumption.  Treat it with the same care we give our body (hopefully!) We choose what to consume. We notice what is toxic. We choose words that support us and help us feel good.

When we consume too much criticism, comparison, or negativity, our confidence takes a hit. When we consciously feed ourselves encouragement, possibility, and self-belief, we show up differently. We feel different. We expect success rather than fear failure.

Be intentional about what gets to stay in your mind. Not every comment deserves that space.

Behaviour: Notice the Thought, Choose the Direction

We all have unhelpful thoughts at times.

Next time, try this:

  1. Catch the unhelpful thought.
  2. Write it down.
  3. Examine whether it is fact, fear, or fiction.
  4. Look for real evidence, not assumptions, to challenge it.
  5. Redirect your brain toward possibilities, solutions, and next steps.

When things go wrong and self-criticism tries to take over, ask yourself:

  • What needs repairing here?
  • How can I get this back on track?

These two questions take us from being stuck in a judgement loop into taking positive steps forward.

Compassion: Speak to Yourself like You Would Your Best Friend

None of us are perfect. We all have wobbles. We all get things wrong. Although we often speak to ourselves with a harshness we would never use with a friend.

Confidence grows in an environment of support, not self-attack. So bring empathy into the conversation with yourself.

Talk to yourself the way you hope others would talk to you. Respectfully. Kindly. Honestly.

Now, Take Action

This week, choose one practice that reinforces your confidence:

  • Filter the words you allow in. Notice whose voices you give power to.
  • Challenge one recurring unhelpful belief with evidence and a forward step.
  • Offer yourself compassion when you feel under pressure rather than pushing harder.

Your confidence is not something others grant you. It is something you build daily, with intention.

Have a great week, Kirsteen
