Welcome to your Confidence Catalyst Newsletter – helping you speak up, step up and stand out.
After my LinkedIn rant on Friday, I couldn’t not turn this into a conversation.
Because it hit a nerve for a reason.
So let me ask you directly:
Are you recognised for your impact… or relied on for your availability?
Many brilliant, ambitious women find themselves in a frustrating position.
Trusted. Dependable. Always called upon.
But not always seen for the value they bring.
And those are not the same thing.
Let’s look at this through our three lenses.
Mindset – From Being Helpful to Being Impactful
There’s a belief many high-achievers carry (often unconsciously):
“If I’m helpful, I’ll be valued.”
So you say yes. You step in. You solve. You support.
And over time, you become indispensable…
But for your availability, not your impact.
Strategic leaders think differently.
They understand that being valuable isn’t about being the most available person in the room.
It’s about being the person who moves things forward.
Ask yourself:
- Where am I being relied on because I’m always available?
- Where is my work actually creating measurable impact?
- If I stopped doing certain tasks, what would genuinely change?
This is the shift: From being helpful everywhere → to being impactful where it matters
Behaviour – Stop Filling Gaps, Start Owning Outcomes
Here’s where this really shows up.
Being “the reliable one” often looks like:
Jumping in to fix last-minute issues
Picking up work that others drop
Saying yes before thinking it through
Being busy all day, then wondering what you achieved
And the problem?
That kind of behaviour keeps you in motion… but not in momentum.
Strategic visibility comes from something different:
Ownership, not availability.
Start here:
- What outcomes am I truly responsible for?
- Which tasks are mineversus ones I’ve absorbed?
- Where am I filling gaps instead of driving results?
Then shift your behaviour:
Be known for delivering results, not rescuing situations.
Be clear on your priorities, not just responsive to others’.
Communicate progress in terms of impact, not effort.
Because people don’t promote the busiest person.
They promote the person whose work makes a difference.
Compassion – You Don’t Have to Earn Your Worth Through Exhaustion
Let’s be honest.
A lot of this comes from a good place.
You care. You take pride in your work. You want to be seen as capable and supportive.
But there’s a cost when that turns into over-availability.
Burnout. Frustration. And the quiet resentment of being overlooked.
So here’s the compassionate question:
What are you allowed to stop doing?
Not everything that lands on your plate is yours to carry.
Ask yourself:
- Where am I saying yes out of habit rather than intention?
- What would happen if I paused before stepping in?
- Where is “being available” no longer serving me?
Compassion isn’t about lowering your standards.
It’s about raising your awareness of where your energy actually counts.
The Deeper Shift
This is the real work.
From: Being available → Being impactful
Being reliable → Being recognised
Filling gaps → Driving outcomes
Because if people only experience you as available…
That’s what they’ll continue to expect.
But when they experience you as impactful?
That’s when your career starts to move.
If this resonated, this is exactly what we’ll be discussing in my next virtual roundtable.
A space for honest conversation, practical strategy, and real reflection on how you’re showing up at work, and what needs to shift for you to be recognised at the level you’re operating.
We’ll explore:
- Where you might be over-indexing on availability
- How to reposition yourself around impact
- The small but powerful shifts that change how others see your value

It will help you identify where your strategy needs attention.
Because the goal isn’t to be the person everyone leans on.
It’s to be the person whose impact can’t be ignored.
Have a great week.
